πŸƒπŸƒTime to Explore During Week Four πŸƒπŸƒ

Hello my friends!

Although I wish we could spend time together in person, I had another lovely week spending time with you in our online classroom! I have enjoyed reading through your Problem/Solution responses and seeing all the great math you completed. I am also really happy with how well our first ever online personality bag went! Addison did a wonderful job sharing his favourite things and the class did a great job asking questions and commenting. Below are some great examples of work submitted this week!

Weekly Spelling Sentences:

Sophia:
My eagle flys away and he is red and blue he also does funny tricks he is a good eagle, he sometimes help me.

Gabby:
I like to play with cars & blocks in class.
-Will you please tell me a story before I go to sleep.
-A garden is a place where rain helps flowers grow.

How many spelling words can you include in one sentence?

Math - Counting Collections

Writing - Problem/ Solution

You all continue to impress me during this time of online learning. I am so impressed with how hard you are all working and the amazing work you are creating. Please feel free to check out the optional work over the weekend for Earth Day! You can find it on our Google Classroom. Here is some work that has already been complete:

Also, here is the link to the staff video from the teachers at Capitol Hill School!
(If you have troubles with this link, the video is uploaded onto the "Stream" part of our Google Classroom. The file is too large for our Blog post).

Have a lovely weekend!!

Happy Earth Day!

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all having a great Earth Day and are taking some time to appreciate our lovely world! Please see the Google Classroom for three fun optional tasks you can take part in to celebrate Earth Day this week. As well, take some time to think about all of the things you are grateful for that come from the earth!

One thing that I am very grateful for is all of the wonderful indoor and outdoor plants. Not only do some of them provide us with food, but I think they are so beautiful to look at and they help me feel calm and relaxed. I wanted to share with you how much the cucumber plants that we planted have grown in the past month!

One thing we often forget about plants is that they are living things! I was reminded of this when I noticed our cucumber plant was starting to become active! It had reached out and grabbed onto the cord on my blinds (I think to support itself and to stretch closer to the sunshine).

After I noticed this, I decided to try and take a time lapse (a video taken over a long period of time and sped up when you watch it) of our cucumber plant. After two hours, this is how much our cucumber plant moved all by itself.

I hope this inspires you to care for the plants around you and treat our natural world with respect. Perhaps you can even work with your family to care for your own plants, in your house or in your backyard! There are so many other things you can do to help our earth. Once again, please look to the extra activities posted on the blog to see the different things you can do. Lets do our part to make everyday earth day!

                                      .

Happy Earth Day Everyone!

Week 1 Optional Learning Tasks

Hello families,

As stated in the previous messenger, I will be posting optional work on our Blog weekly! With Easter weekend approaching, here are a couple of seasonal activities.

Peeps are a sweet delicious treat that people of all ages love to eat. Have you ever wondered how these cute little chicks are made? Watch the video below to find out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjbQ7YT2yfg

Literacy (listening, reading, writing)
1.) a.) Watch the Video about how Peeps are made
b.) Write five to ten Did You Know ...? facts you learned from watching the video.
           For example:
Did you know that Peeps come in many different flavours like lemon lime, sour cherry and there are even mystery flavours?

Numeracy (addition)
2.) Choose one of the photos below and calculate how many eggs or Peeps are in the picture. Don't forget to communicate your mathematical thinking on paper. In other words show the strategies you used (drawing a picture, making groups of 10, tally marks, skip counting by 2s, 5s or 10s) to figure out the total number. Do not just write the number sentence with the answer.

Option 1.

Option 2.

Body Break
3.) Just Dance Kids - The Chicken Dance

Spring Break

Hello everyone,

After talking with everyone and hearing how hard you have been working over the past few weeks on your own learning projects, I thought it would be wonderful for the class to see videos and pictures of what that looked like!

Simon shared, "I made 1.5 Star Wars books."

Alex shared, "My dad and I built a paper volcano. Then after we were done building it, I exploded it with baking soda and vingear, but the explosion was small."

Finley created a video called Duck Pond. He presented about a walk he went on with his mom and used lots of juicy words and similes to describe what he saw! Please click the link below to watch his video presentation.

Please feel free to continue sending pictures or videos of your work so we can continue to share our learning! :)
