Literacy Week

Hello Families,

This week we had so much fun celebrating literacy! We believe that reading and writing is soooooo important!

On Monday, we wore shirts with words on them! On Tuesday, we had a guest teacher come and read to us. On Wednesday we made special book marks. They will get laminated once they are all finished. Today, we had an assembly and celebrated all of our favourite characters. We even got to write about it with our buddies. During our assembly, Gabby was very brave and helped Miss. Caughey unveil who the staff favourite books were!

I think our classes favourite part of the week was DEAR time, where any time in the day, Ms. Jenik went on the intercom and told us to drop everything and read for 10 minutes. We even had to stop and read during P.E and our assembly!

Here are some pictures from the week:

Rock N' Roll Readers

In writing, we have been learning how to write descriptive settings with lots of juicy words. We even learned how to use a simile! The task we are working on right now is to describe our own mystery setting without saying what it is. Ask me what my setting is and some of my ideas in my 4 senses brainstorm.

In math, we are continuing to work on different strategies to solve addition and subtraction questions.

Funny Friday

This week in math we learned about making 10's! For homework we have a math game that will help us practice this skill. The grade one's have been learning about making 10 and turn around facts. Ask me about an example.

In writing, we have been learning about how to write a descriptive setting using our 4 senses (hear, see, smell, touch). We explored a picture of a fall scene and of the northern lights. Ask me about what I wrote this week.

Hello Families,

We have had a busy week back at school! In gym we started floor hockey. In science we have started learning about hot and cold things. Ask me about some things that are hot and cold!

In math, we started to learn about number lines. First, we created number lines with masking tape and pens. We made them from 0-30. We solved different addition and subtraction problems and played some number line math games.
