Funky Friday

This week, the grade 2's have been doing graphing. The grade 1's have been continuing work with representing numbers, patterning and sorting.

Today and yesterday we worked on our sunrise/ sunset landscapes. We put on our final details this morning. We used tape to make the outline of our trees. We painted them with water color paints. We practiced blending primary colors to make secondary colors for the sky, just like it does in real life!

We have also learned how to write a friendly letter.  We practiced by writing our letters to Santa. We can't wait to here back from him!

Family Research

Hello,

Thank you to everyone who came out for interviews last week. It was so wonderful to share your child's learning and celebrate all of their success this Fall.

This week in social studies, we are finishing our family trees. Next, we will be researching the flags from the countries of our heritage. Can you please have a conversation with your child about their background so that they are prepared to search their country's flag. Some may have more than one flag. For example, my dad is Irish and my mom is Japanese so I would research those two flags.

Reminders:
-Scholastic book order is due this Thursday November 28.

Thank you for checking in with the blog!

Hello parents,

This week we had a very special day! We went on our field trip to the Leighton Art Centre. It was a beautiful day and we had lots of opportunities to explore. We focussed on the season winter and what the land looks like, and what animals and people are doing.

First, we looked at a variety of bones and animal droppings.

Next, we learned how to sketch a pine tree. We really focussed on drawing lightly and taking our time to add details.

Next, we created our own winter clay ornaments. We had a variety of tools to use to add different textures to our scenes.

After lunch, we went on a nature walk. We looked at Barbara Leighton's house and all of her and her husbands beautiful paintings. We also went to echo hill which is close to her house where we practiced making an echo between the rolling hills!

Last, we created human sculptures who are dressed for winter and taking part in a winter activity.

During our learning conferences next week, you will be able to check out all of the awesome work that the students created!

In math, the grade ones have been practicing their subitizing skills. The grade 2's have been learning about increasing patterns. They can get extra practice this weekend for homework.
